Caring for destination

This tour provider has taken action to address one or more issues (whether environmental, social or cultural) which will contribute positively to the long term viability of the destination and hence their site displays a Caring for the destination rating.

Main area of focus in Caring for the Destination:

Social - Distributing needful materials to local children and training them on sanitary practices, prioritising use of local produce and manpower.

Detailed description of the Caring for the Destination Initiative:

Our main focus remains on using the local food and vegetables with the aim of helping the people living in the areas covered during the trek earn their living. For the same cause, we have a policy of hiring the manpower we need from those places. We then give them special instructions about things they should maintain when they approach tourists.

Children living in Manang and Jomsom (or Lower Mustang) areas are less fortunate in the sense that not all of them can go to a school due to poverty and social reservations. Girls are even more victimised by gender discrimination and are deprived of many opportunities. We wish to keep trying to change this scenario by spending some of our own resources like time and money.

On every tour we operate in those regions, our team purchases some of the basic items needful to those children. As the trekking group reach those places, they not only distribute soaps, pencils and notebooks to the needy children, but also teach them how to wash their hands to reduce chances of catching diseases like diarrhoea, cholera and dysentery. Their parents are told about the importance of education in the personal development of their kids, both sons and daughters.

Our team also facilitates communication between the locals and interested tourists by teaching them some frequently used words and gestures so that they can understand and build respect for one another. If you are interested too, let us know as we can advise you of things you could do without spending a lot of money or time, for example, donating excess food, medicines or other items.
