The Buddhists in Pokhara celebrate Buddha Jayanti (or Buddha Purnima) in all the Buddhist stupas and shrines, including the World Peace Pagoda. Hindus also accord special importance to the Buddha Jayanti because Buddha is considered to be one of the ten avatars of Lord Vishnu according to Hindu mythology. Over the world, Gautam Buddha, born in Lumbini of Nepal, is known not only as a founder of religion but also as an apostle of non-violence, compassion and kindness. That is why the day is assuming growing international significance.
