Shivaratri

Place: Gupteshwor Mahadev Temple and all over Pokhara

Although people also celebrate Shivaratri at home, special worships (Pooja's) are conducted at Shiva temples. Thousands of pilgrims from different parts of Nepal visit the temple of Gupteshwor Mahadev (Mahadev = Shiva) to worship. Some spend the whole night singing prayers.

This festival, celebrated by Hindus all over Nepal and abroad at all the temples of Shiva, is believed to mark the end of winter and beginning of summer.
